I’m sure that a cinema buff could enlighten me as to what’s going through Antonioni’s mind as this image was being made. At first I thought Monica Vitti was smoking. But upon closer inspection she perhaps is about to cough, or maybe is gesturing to expound a point she’s making. Either way, they both seem incredibly unprepared for the photo. Antonioni’s posture and facial expression convey extreme disinterest and boredom, which makes me want to know more even badly know what sort of conversation is taking place. It might have another meaning: If you are a crew member, this is possibly the worst look you might get from a director that you’ve chosen to photograph. It says “Really, you are here? Taking a picture of this? I’m not even going to waste my time verbally firing you.”

I will upload one image each day from a folder I have on my desktop named "LOOK AT THIS". I'll attempt here to explain what it is about the image that I find interesting, intriguing, important, fun etc. I'll also try to make connections between the images over time, space, theme, medium etc..
